Of course, here in one of many particularly flat parts of the Midwest, it is rather cold these days, considering that the 4th of July is next week. One of the local weathermen actually predicted a low of 39 degrees in a nearby community. That is colder than I at least have seen it ever this time of the year. On the other hand, I read that in southern Alaska, near Juneau, the high temperature was recorded at 80 or above for 5 consecutive days, a new record.

Today is June 25, 2004. In bygone times this day bore the mantle of "St. John's Day." The 25th of June is exactly six months since last Christmas and six months before next Christmas. You can't get any further away from Christmas than today. When I tell some people this, it drives them crazy!
